Crispy Oats Fried Chicken

Updated: Aug 10, 2020

Crispy and crunchy from outside and juicy from inside oats coated Fried Chicken

This recipe is similar to the KFC style chicken but the usage of oats for the coating gives crispiness to the chicken. This is my mother's recipe which I am sharing here and everyone loves it at home. Every time when we go for vacation this is one food which my elder son, Aalim asks my mother to make. This time due to the current covid situation as we were not able to travel Aalim was so sad about it. He always have a list of food which he wants my mother to make. This time as it was not possible I asked him what recipes of his grandmother that he wants to try so that I can make for him. Oats fried chicken is definitely on the list.

It tastes yum when you have it with coleslaw and garlic paste. Marinating the chicken for 2 hrs infuses the flavours into the chicken resulting in a juicy from inside and crunchy from outside fried chicken. While frying see that the chicken is fully immersed in oil otherwise it would not be cooked from inside. Also the do not overcrowd the pan, add 3 to 4 pieces at a time. Keep the flame at a medium, or else the oats will burn quickly. Lets move to the recipe.

Ingredients:

Chicken - 1 kg (with skin, cut into 10 pieces)

Chilii Powder - 1.5 tsp

Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp

Garam Masala - 1/4 tsp

Salt - 1 tsp

All Purpose Flour - 1.5 cups

Cornflour - 3 Tbsp

Eggs - 3

Ginger-garlic paste - 1 Tbsp

Shallot paste - 2 Tbsp

Oats - 2 cups

Directions:

1. Coat the Chicken with all purpose flour, cornflour, salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder.

2. Now marinate with eggs, shallot paste and ginger - garlic paste.

3. Marinate the chicken for 2 hrs. Keep in fridge.

4. Coat the chicken with oats on all sides untill well coated.

5, Fry the chicken well in oil untill it turns golden brown and crispy from outside.
